Small Improvements, Constantly Applied

Small Improvements, Constantly Applied

A fresh twist on our proprietary leak-proof lid system

At SMMT Outdoor, “small improvements constantly applied” isn’t a slogan, it’s a promise. It’s how we build our brand, our products, and our connection to the people who use them.

When we launched, we didn’t get everything right. Most startups don’t — and we certainly didn’t. But we listened.

Why we obsessed over the lid

We set out to create a truly leak-proof tumbler lid — one that you could toss in your bag, carry in the carpool chaos, or trust at the end of a mountain trail. The goal was simple: no leaks, no compromises, just seamless design and performance.

Our first version nailed the leak-proof part — maybe a little too well. We started hearing from customers who loved the function but found it tough to twist open. Not exactly the effortless experience we wanted to deliver.

Engineering the “just right” zone

So we went back to the drawing board. Our product team studied torque, newton-meters, and thread patterns — details that most people will never see but always feel.
By adjusting the threading by fractions of a millimeter, we reduced the twisting force by about 25%, hitting what we now call the Goldilocks zone: easy to open, but still 100% reliable.

We also added a subtle thumb grip we call ‘torque grip’ to the Tritan lid — one of those micro-details that makes everyday use just a little smoother.

The philosophy behind the fix

These aren’t headline-grabbing updates. You might not even notice them unless you knew what to look for. But to us, that’s the essence of building a great brand: listen, refine, repeat.

Every small improvement is a nod to our community — to everyone who’s ever left a review, sent a note, or shared feedback. You help us build better.

So here’s to happier sipping and easier twisting. Cheers,

— Jamie
