This collection, in a nutshell, is SMMT. Each of our colors is a story, and nowhere is that more true than in our 980 collection (see our 980 Field Notes for more). We couldn’t be more excited to drop our 2024 Sunsets Collection on October 9th, as we reflect on our Summer season and transition into Fall.
The first defining element of this collection, that feels so core to SMMT, is the theme. Sunsets are a core part of our brand story and our family philosophy on life. The Parker’s would definitely be described as type-A. We have a hard time slowing down and smelling the roses. Sunsets and magic hour are our roses. Our three generation family had the opportunity to connect and celebrate multiple times this summer, despite the thousands of miles that separate us. Although we often are running, both literally and metaphorically, we find a way to all come together to slow down and enjoy each others company during that magical cocktail and dinner hour. Summer 2024 was unbelievably special, because we pulled together not once but twice as a multi-generational family. We made a bucket list trip together to Croatia in June, and we gathered in Martha’s Vineyard in August, before kids started new school adventures, took on new teaching roles, and collected ourselves for the next chapter of SMMT. Sunsets symbolize gathering time in the Parker family, and we hope this collection brings more than a great new colorway but a reason to gather and celebrate together.
The color stories of this collection are perhaps even more deeply meaningful. We poured through hundreds, if not thousands, of inspirational images to create a mood board for this collection. We narrowed it down to 4 inspirational sunsets that evoked deep emotion for us, two inspired by the mountains and two inspired by the coast. The two places that feel like home. We launched one of our first Community Casts to invite you, our community, into the process and help us select one of each. Harbor Blue & Mountain Indigo, the colors of our first-ever Sunsets Collection, are a perfect reflection of our brand, the places we are inspired by, and the moments that remind us to slow down and enjoy the journey. SMMT is sustainable, mountain, marine, travel after all.
This collection was a labor of love, and it certainly didn’t go perfectly. In true start-up fashion, we set out to launch this in late summer (late July / early August), and here we are in October. But even the challenges and best laid plans make this collection more special to us, and hopefully to you. A reminder that building a business is hard, and comes with setbacks but is as much about the journey as it is the destination.
We hope the Summer Sunsets Collection, paired with an early morning coffee or an evening toast, becomes more than just a favorite drinkware for you. We hope it serves as a reminder to slow down, grab someone special, and enjoy the moment.
