A Sunset, A Conversation, A Brand Was Born

I distinctly remember when SMMT was born. It was a mid-summer evening in 2021, almost two years before we launched, on our back patio in Park City. Michelle and I were enjoying a cocktail with my brother and sister-in-law after a day of hiking on the trails with the kids.

We were barbecuing as the sun was setting—that spectacular mountain pink. We were talking about how freaking awesome it is to spend a day outdoors and then gather to break bread after. We had Widespread playing, feet kicked up, laughing about some of the moments of the day.

That night was the first time we talked about a brand that could bottle that feeling. It’s why we create products that bring people and moments together. It’s why SMMT’s brand color is alpenglow.

That night changed our lives, and sunsets will forever be the enduring calling card of what inspired the brand. Moments after a day outdoors, intertwined with great people, great food, great music, and hopefully, great views. It’s how SMMT was born, and it’s why every year, we have a Sunsets Collection.

Bringing the Community Into the Design Process

Our founding story led us directly to an idea that felt so perfectly aligned with the spirit of the brand and the moments that inspire us. What if we let our community in on those moments and inspirations in a way no other brand does? What if we let them vote on the design of our Sunsets Collection?

That simple idea became Community Cast.

Mountain & Marine—The Duality That Defines Us

The colors this year, like every year, feature the duality of Mountain & Marine—the two M’s of SMMT (Sustainable. Mountain. Marine. Travel.) and the two places we always want to be.

Sunsets 2025 is a nostalgic view of iconic mountain and marine landscapes, almost like you’re sitting there with a friend. It captures that original feeling and view from our patio that led to SMMT. The way the pastels of ocean and mountain skies blend with the landscape to create the theater for incredible moments together.

We haven’t even named them yet, but we’re excited to introduce them.
