Triple Black: Behind the Design

Triple Black: Behind the Design

A note from our founder on SMMT’s newest core color

We’ve been talking about this moment for more than a year. For those closest to the brand, it’s been no secret that a true black-out design was always coming. From the very beginning, our core palette has reflected the mountains we call home—Carbon, Blue, and Sage. A Black, blue, and green reference to mountain navigation were always locked in as our foundation, so creating a pure blacked-out version, a ‘Triple Black’,  felt inevitable. It even has roots in our product beginnings, a blacked out version of product is familiar territory from our sneaker roots and street culture appreciation.

But inevitability doesn’t mean unimportant. Every color we’ve released has carried a deeper story, and Triple Black might be the most personal yet.

Now, let’s be honest—if you asked our friends to describe us as skiers, “steep terrain experts” wouldn’t exactly make the list. Living in Park City, we’re more enthusiastic than elite. We admire the locals and friends who chase those legendary steep lines, and we’ll watch film after film of athletes skiing terrain we could never touch with great music layered in. But while we might not ski triple (or double) blacks, the spirit behind them resonates deeply: a quiet confidence, more about substance than style.

That became the perfect parallel for how we build SMMT drinkware. Details matter—the three-level insulation that actually holds temperature longer, the truly lea k-proof design, the knurled metal lid that rewards analog touch. These aren’t superficial flourishes. They’re choices that serve people who value the ritual as much as the result.

Triple Black carries that same philosophy. Stripped down, understated, but undeniably strong. A design that doesn’t need to shout to be noticed. For us, it’s more than a color—it’s a reflection of mountain town living and the kind of brand we’re building.

We’ve had fun with every color we’ve introduced, but this one sits close to the top for us. Maybe because it took longer to get here, maybe because it feels like a pure expression of who we are and what we love. Either way, we couldn’t be more excited to finally share it.

See you on the trails,
Jamie & Michelle
