Mud season is the offseason or shoulder season in mountain towns. It’s when you leave for greener pastures and warmer destinations. And you certainly don’t book a trip here. A season when snow, rain or sun are equally probable and often happen in the same day. Locally, the saying ‘came for the winters, stayed for the summers’ leaves no room for mud season. Ski season is over, trails not yet open.
Well, that’s one point-of-view. We celebrate the uncelebrated. We celebrate the overlanders, the scrapers of mud off trail shoes, those hiking for higher ground to strap the sticks on one last time. We love the rare quiet stroll on Main Street, supporting the few 365 restaurants and bars, and the early-season barbecuers willing to brave the weather.
There is no ‘off’ season, even in the offseason.
